61st National Film Awards: Rajkumar best actor, Ship of Theseus best film

The complete list of winners of the 61st National Film Awards were announced recently, where actor Rajkumar Rao bagged the best actor award and director Hansal Mehta was honoured with the best director award for the movie ‘Shahid’.

Last year’s box office sensation Bhaag Milkha Bhaag was awarded with the best popular film award. Famous bollywood choreographer Ganesh Acharya was given best choreography award for the song ‘Hawan Karenge’ from the movie Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.

Another movie in the limelight during the event was Anand Gandhi’s debut film ‘Ship of Theseus’, which grabbed the best feature film award. Suraj Venjaramoodu also won best actor for Malayalam film ‘Perariyathavar’ while Geetanjali Thapa was named the best actress for Hindi film ‘Liar’s Dice’.

Saurabh Shukla, who played a role of excellent judge in the film Jolly LLB was given best supporting actor award for the film, which was also named the best Hindi film.

The best supporting actress award is shared by Amruta Subhas and Aida El-Kashef for Astu (Marathi) and ‘Ship of Theseus’ (English-Hindi).

  • Best Film (Hindi): Jolly LLB
  • Best Actress: Geetanjali Thapa (Liar’s Dice, Hindi)
  • Best Actor: Raj Kumar (Shahid, Hindi) and  Suraj Venjaramoodu (Terariyathavar, Malyalam)
  • Supporting Actor (Female): Aida Elkashef, Ship of Theseus and Amruta Subash, Astu
  • Best Direction: Hansal Mehta for Shahid (Hindi)
  • Special Mention Gauri Gadgil and Sanjana Rai for ‘Yellow’ (Marathi)
