Gaurav Jai Gupta's Akaaro rocks the show at WIFW SS 2014 Day 2

With the beginning of day 2 of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2014, the expectations were high as the 1st day ended in a high node. Designer Gaurav Jai Gupta seemed much excited to show his exclusive collection named ‘Akaaro’ which was something different from just intricate and bright prints.

Gaurav in his collection showcased some plain colours with a blend of bright print work. Akaaro by Gaurav Jai Gupta used the colour charcoal grey vigorously, which provided a claasy and out of box look to his collections.

Gaurav’s collection for Spring Summer 2014 was indeed complete in itself, which included sarees, jumpsuits, high waist palazzo pants, knee-length dresses, maxis, jackets  and hot pants, which was atreat to the spectators to watch.

Gaurav’s Spring Summer 14 collection drew  visual references from the religious habit (dress) at 'Missionary of Charity' order and portrait of an old women by Hans Hambling (1470-75). The collection also is a contextualization of the state of current affairs in the country in a recent past and is suggesting a new approach to chieve stability and balance.

Clothes were the social psychological aspect of appearance; the blue (colour of virgin mary) stripe which is an integral part of cotton saree of the sisters of the order, were used along with the colors from Memling's painting. Engineered hand woven jacquard checks was developed along with stripes.

Washed out cotton silks with crushed jacquards in blacks and stainless steel were used in easy separates. Hand woven entirely at akaaro studios in Delhi with natural yarns the collection was a symbolic transition from chaos to calmness.
